A Wonderful Family Christmas at The Woodland Retreat 

My family and I (2 adults, 2 children aged 10 and 6) have just spent the most wonderful Christmas at the Woodland Retreat. We have stayed in rental properties all over the world and can easily say that this was the best - hands down! Every little detail had been thought about from the wonderful toiletries in each bathroom to the welcome gifts of prosecco, biscuits, chocolate and other basics like bread and milk. The cottage was spotlessly clean and all furnishings and crockery were of the highest quality. The cottage is set in the most idyllic, peaceful location with access to the huge wood behind. The children spent hours exploring the surroundings - we even spotted deer and red squirrels right outside! Lisa was extremely helpful with all aspects of the booking process and provided excellent instructions and tips closer to the time of arrival. We literally couldn't find fault with anything other than the fact we had to come home!! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Woodland Retreat to anyone - it really does deserve its 5-star rating. We can't wait to return!

Over and above all expectations at The Woodland

First of all, I have to say thank you to the owners Lisa and Jamie. Nothing is spared in the provision to make the stay here as perfect as possible. To try and fully describe the cottage would still be doing it a disservice. Seeing is believing and this place has to be seen and experienced to be fully appreciated. We have stayed in many places for weekends etc and the woodland retreat in our opinion has set the bar, extremely high. Hopefully, we will book again in the new year.

Chilled weekend at The Woodland Retreat

My wife and I stayed for two nights at the start of October. This is truly a 5* cottage, everything you need is thought of!! Tea, coffee, bread, jam all provided and the wood burner heated hot tub already fired up!! We had a fantastic relaxed time and the views in the morning were incredible. Highly recommend this cottage and the owners were fantastic too!!

The Woodland Retreat, a Superior Self Catering holiday cottage.

Myself and three friends stayed here in September for a long-overdue reunion. The property turned out to be so good we hardly left it which enabled us to have a great catch up with each other. From the outset, the engagement from the vendors, greeting and welcome pack on arrival was all seamless and top class. The property sits on its own grounds in a beautiful location with walks and activities nearby. The standard of the property, its finish and facilities have been well thought out and completed to the highest standard - and we really appreciated the luxury. There really was nothing we wanted for or fell short of during our stay. We had a car which we would recommend, but only a short drive or taxi ride away are a number of activities, shops and restaurant options. All of us loved our stay and wished it had been longer. All hoping to revisit again soon.

We jumped at the chance to book our Christmas week at the Woodland Retreat. The cottage was even lovelier than I expected and looked so festive with a beautiful real tree, decorations and Christmas lights. It's beautifully designed, spotlessly clean and manages to be spacious and cosy all at the same time. The bathrooms are so luxurious; we loved the rainfall showers and the huge bath as well as snuggling up in front of the wood burner to watch the huge TV after a soak in the outdoor hot tub. Lisa is great to deal with and really knows what visitors want. The cottage is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay and lots of little touches like fresh flowers, welcome pack on arrival, books, DVDs and games make The Woodland Retreat feel so welcoming and homely. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could and we very much look forward to visiting again soon!

We arrived at the Woodland Retreat in need of a well-earned break, and it simply lived up to its billing in every respect. Set back from the road up its own driveway, the woodland retreat lets you into your own private hideaway nestled in the woodland, with only deer and red squirrels for company. There is a real sensation of space, seclusion and privacy. The Woodland retreat has been restored with great attention to detail, and is just about as perfect as we could imagine; from the basket of essentials waiting for us on arrival to all the mod cons - and more besides - that you could possibly wish for. We found that we didn't venture out in the evenings, because the combination of the hot tub, the mood lighting and the sheer brilliance of the location made it somewhere that we didn't much feel like leaving! There were bike tracks and woodland walks, as well as tennis when we weren't sat in the window seats reading and watching the wildlife. Lisa and Jamie were brilliant hosts, extremely generous, warm and thoughtful and this only adds to the quality of the Woodland Retreat. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

Woodland Retreat (WR) looks amazing online, but it’s even better in person if that’s possible! Lots of special touches make it truly luxurious--gorgeous lighting throughout; massive flatscreen (+ DVDs, sat channels); comfy bedding; local artwork;  giant outdoor soaking tub (yep!) … and lots more. Comparably priced rentals will have to up their game, and higher priced rentals should take note! Lisa's standards (cleanliness and taste) are extremely high. The property is recently renovated, and they clearly spared no expense, incorporating “green” features and add-on wing with laundry room, storage/recycling room, and mud room for pets (great for allergy sufferers). The grounds are gorgeous and tranquil, and the trees provide privacy and a refuge from Scotland winds. We found the location ideal for seeing the sights in the lowlands and to do a day trip to Inverness (incl. Loch Ness and Culloden Battlefield). Customer service is 2nd-to-none. Our rental car broke down on the way from the airport; Lisa graciously came to rescue us. She then spent an hour showing us around the property. If that's not enough, there's also a comprehensive, neatly organized binder (a lady after my own heart!) with info on the area and cottage. We also found a welcome basket of homemade cookies, eggs, milk, jam, tea, coffee, sugar, fruit, etc. and fresh flowers. She thought of everything and made us feel like special houseguests. A rare gift. Lisa provides written instructions and is available 24-7 via mobile. Bottom line, if you hesitate and someone reserves your travel dates, change them! The WR will be THE best part of your trip.
