The Region

Perthshire’s largest city, Perth, a pretty market town on the River Tay, is conveniently located only 15 mins from The Retreat Cottages. Here you will find a theatre, concert hall, cinema, art galleries, swimming pool, ice rink and museums. There is also a good selection of quality shops, restaurants and pubs ... something for everyone! 

 

For those interested in Scottish culture and heritage, The Retreat holiday cottages are well positioned to visit Scone Palace (15 mins), Stirling Castle (30 mins), Glenturret Whisky Distillery (10 mins), Drummond Castle Gardens (10 mins), to name but a few.

Watch magnificent skeins of geese flying overhead and large numbers of swans meandering down the river. Red squirrels and large numbers of game can also be seen on the estate including pheasant, partridge, hare, roe and red deer.

 

Guests enjoy free access to a 3 mile private beat on the river Earn, hosting salmon, sea trout, grayling and the odd otter!

Blair Castle, the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl 

A short 10 minute drive will take you to Crieff and the Gateway to the Highlands for a stunning tour up to the beautiful Scottish glens and lochs. The Retreat Cottages are centrally located to enjoy Scotland’s most famous golf courses: Gleneagles championship courses are only 10 mins away and both St Andrews Old Course and The Carnoustie Open Championship Course can be reached within an hour.

 

For those interested in wildlife, there is an abundance on the estate ranging from nesting ospreys, seaeagles and other birds of prey; lapwings, oyster catchers, curlews and other waders are plentiful.
